What's the T?: Jamal & Douglas

I had the opportunity to interview these two amazing gentlemen, Jamal Bull and Douglas Henry, who I know are going to have a huge influence on fashion culture someday. They attend the same university as me and are always styled exceptionally well. I thought it would be a good idea to dive deeper into the minds of these two fashion gurus.

C: Let's begin with what's your age and where are you from?

J: 18 & Sante, NC
D: 19 & Raleigh, NC

C: We hear people all the time say I knew this was for me at so and so age. When did you know fashion was
going to be your passion?

J: I can say I have always had an interest, but with age it grew stronger. Maybe when I started shopping on my own,  in middle school, is when I started to pay attention to what I liked.
D: I would have to say, not until middle school because elementary school was a rough stage for me. It was around middle school when peer pressure started to make me actually care about what I was wearing. I actually started to make such a change in my wardrobe that even my dad began to say "Who are you trying to impress?"

C: I know for me I never know what I'm going to wear when I wake up, I just get the idea when I check the weather and open my closet. So what would you say inspires your style on an everyday basis?

J: It depends how I feel in the morning after a shower. I usually check the weather too. I also keep in mind what are my plans for the day, whether it be formal or casual. And some days I try to go against the grain with my clothing.
D: Three things play into how I get dress: how I feel about himself, how I want to feel about myself, and how I want other to feel about me. I like to tell a story with my fashion each day.

C: We all know Rihanna just received the Fashion Icon award at the CFDA Fashion Awards. Who would you say is your style icon and why?

J: Hmmm, I would have to say Rihanna & Pharrell, but honestly anyone that catches my eye at the moment.
D: I wouldn't say a particular person because one day I could love their outfit and then the next day they're not doing it for me. So would say, no style icon for me, but my biggest inspiration would have to be New York, the Soho area.

C: If you could only wear one accessory for the rest of your life, what would it be?

J: A bracelet I just recently bought. I like it and everyone else seem to be liking it as well.
D: My grandfather's watch that I received after he passed away.

C: Who is your favorite designer at this moment?

J: Jeremy Scott. I'm loving is Moschino collection.
D: Olivier Rousteing. I love how he is reinventing the Balmain brand.

C: Where do you love to shop? Staple stores?

J: I would say H&M for basics because their products are of good quality. And Asos would have to be my other choice if I'm looking to add something fresh and new to my closet.
D: The thrift stores in Greensboro are my go to stores at the moment.

C: What are your next goals or plans?

J:

  1. Getting my closet to the point where I have all the fashion basics. So that when I shop I can buy "add ons" that will enhance my choice of clothing
  2. Get an internship in New York that has something to do with my career/passion
  3. Establish myself at school and display more of what I can bring/offer to people
D:

  1. Rebuilding my wardrobe from scratch
  2. Starting  my own blog
  3. Going to New York again to see what they're wearing
